How MHT CET Percentile Is Calculated (NTA-style Normalization)
MHT CET, Maharashtra's state entrance exam for engineering and medical admissions, is conducted across multiple sessions, and like JEE Main, no two sessions get an identical question set. To keep the comparison fair for every candidate regardless of which session they sat, the exam authority converts raw marks into a percentile score, which reflects the proportion of all candidates you outperformed, adjusted for session-to-session difficulty differences. A percentile of 95 means you scored better than 95 out of every 100 candidates across all sessions combined, once that normalization has been applied.
This is why two candidates who scored quite different raw marks in different sessions can end up with an identical percentile, and why your percentile, not your raw marks, is what actually determines your rank in the state merit list.
Maharashtra Quota vs All India Quota Seats
The vast majority of engineering and medical seats at Maharashtra's colleges are reserved for the state's own quota, allocated through MHT CET's dedicated counselling process specifically. A smaller share of seats at certain institutions is set aside for All India quota candidates, typically filled through separate national-level processes such as JEE Main-based counselling for engineering, or NEET-based counselling for medical seats. ICT Mumbai (Institute of Chemical Technology) has followed a similarly competitive pattern for its specialized programs. Beyond this top tier, a broad range of solid engineering colleges across Pune, Mumbai, and other Maharashtra cities has generally remained accessible at percentiles in the 90s and above, with branch choice widening further as the percentile requirement drops.
